"X-ray intelligent detection system for composite products" won the national bronze award of the "Internet +" competition

In October 2024, the "X-ray Intelligent Inspection System for Composite Products" team stood out with its advanced intelligent detection solution at the national finals of the 2nd "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held in Beijing, and finally won the Bronze Award. Under the careful guidance of Professor Fang Zheng, the team members successfully promoted the project from the laboratory to the national stage with their keen market insight and solid technical strength, demonstrating the extraordinary demeanor of our students in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Based on the wide application of composite materials in high-end manufacturing industries such as aerospace and new energy vehicles, the project team deeply realized that the traditional manual judgment process has problems such as low efficiency and high missed detection rate. Their self-developed system collects sample images through multi-angle X-ray scanning, and applies the self-developed convolutional neural network model to the real-time analysis of high-dimensional data, realizing the accurate identification of small defects such as delamination and voids of composite fibers. Different from relying on manual experience in the past, this full-process automated intelligent detection platform not only greatly improves the detection speed, but also stabilizes the recognition accuracy at more than 95%, setting a new benchmark for the industry.
At the finals, the team members won high praise from the judges from equipment hardware debugging to algorithm optimization to software interface demonstration. Professor Fang Zheng pointed out in his comments: "The students completed the whole process from scheme demonstration to system integration in just a few months, which fully demonstrated the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and the excellence of technical details. The team leader also said that this bronze award is not only an affirmation of their unremitting efforts, but also encourages everyone to continue to deepen the field of intelligent detection and promote scientific research results to industrial application as soon as possible.
It is reported that the system has reached preliminary cooperation intentions with a number of composite material manufacturing enterprises and third-party testing institutions, and the team plans to launch a pilot demonstration in 2025 to further improve the performance of the equipment and promote mass production. In the future, they will also explore expanding the platform to more scenarios such as medical imaging and electronic component testing, and strive to demonstrate the innovative strength of "Made in China" in a broader market.
